“Karen Dalton and Joanna Newsom melt together in the form of Gaelynn Lea and set about absolutely obliterating your heart.”  -Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys)

“The way her voice resonates is so unusual and beautiful, like nothing I’ve ever heard before.”   -Jess Wolfe (Lucius)

Classically trained violinist and songwriter Gaelynn Lea is coming to Funk ‘N Waffles in Syracuse, NY to play a solo set of her haunting music on January 18th. Gaelynn has been bewitching scores of fans with her experimental and ambient takes on fiddle music, an approach that incorporates her love of traditional tunes, songwriting, poetry and sonic exploration. Of her live performances, Gaelynn Lea said, “my aim is to create a meditative, layered sound that allows the listener’s mind to drift. “

Gaelynn’s work most recently won NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest in March of 2016, a competition drawing submissions of original songs from more than 6,000 musicians across the country. Gaelynn Lea’s musical reach quickly expanded because of the Tiny Desk Contest. She began touring nationally in September 2016, and in December 2016 she performed in Europe for the first time as support for Low’s Christmas tour. Now she is embarking on another national tour in early 2017, which brings her to the state of New York for her show at Funk ‘N Waffles on January 18th.

“I am really excited to get back on the road to play,” says Gaelynn. “I had so much fun on our first national tour; we met a lot of wonderful people on the road. I am looking forward to seeing many of these folks again this time around, and meeting new people as well.”

She will be joined by special guest Vada March for this performance, which starts at 8pm. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. They are available for purchase online at http://www.ticketfly.com/purch ase/event/1391419.  This show is ages 18+.
